Over the last couple of centuries, Evolution has dominated the various scientific theories trying to explain the origin of the universe. Initially people solely believed that the universe came about through creation as explained in various religious manuscripts such as the Bible. However, in the 17th century or “the Age of Enlightenment” this understanding was questioned by the rise of scientist such as Charles Darwin who could not agree with creationism (Christopher Lane, D. (2008). The evolution of science meant that it would adopt the use of measurable data as evidence to back its argument which was a shift from the use of superstitions (Hunter, C. (2007). Through carbon dating and other archeological techniques, scientist found out that the universe was still in existence even before the creationism came to be (Bowler, P. (1984). In his book, “the Origin of Species” Charles Darwin explain his theory about evolution where he argued that various species in the universe evolved from very simple to complex species gradually over time as a result of change in their genetic composition(Bowler, P. (1984). In addition, he talks about the theory of natural selection where only the fittest organisms are able to survive.
The intelligent designers tend to challenge the notion of evolution by suggesting that evolution is an undirected and random process as species evolve from simple to complex states since it does not give specific timelines and therefore it does not fully explain the origin of the universe (Neuralsurfer. (2010, May 3). They therefore suggest that the universe originated from an intelligent cause. However, the intelligent designers are unable to explain origin of this intelligent cause and thus the general assumption is that they are referring to a supreme creature like God (Seiglie, M. (2009, December 1). This almost puts them at par with the creationists who have a similar ideology. Furthermore, scientists who idealize on intelligent design agree on some aspects of evolution such as species evolve to better forms over time (Neuralsurfer. (2010, May 3). These uncertainties surrounding intelligent design and creationism have therefore meant that most biologists tend to be more persuaded by evolution.
The debate on evolution versus creation and intelligent design has been in existence for a long time and one that is likely to continue (Seiglie, M. (2009, December 1). One of the reasons why intelligent design and creation remains a popular subject in America is that over the last few decades, a group of scientists have vigorously campaigned against the two being taught in the American education system (Bowler, P. (1984). Their argument is that the two do not give concrete scientific evidence to justify their claim about the origin on the universe. However, as you would expect proponents of intelligent design and creations mostly of whom are religious leaders gallantly defend their ideology. This has meant that intelligent design and creation remain popular in America.

The Evolution versus Intelligent Design Debate.
Ever since the beginning of time, mankind has always had a profound desire to establish his origin or in other words to understand the existence of the universe and how it came to be. This has often sparked a heated debate on this subject matter with several views being brought forward to explain this phenomenon. One such popular view is the evolution ideology which was fronted by Charles Darwin. According to Darwin, through evolution the universe has evolved through gradual and systematic changes happening over time (Bowler, P. (1984). On the other hand there is the idea of intelligent design whose proponents argue that the existence of the universe is as a result an intelligent cause (Neuralsurfer. (2010, May 3). Finally there are the creationists who point out that a supreme being was responsible for the creation of the universe (Hunter, C. (2007). All three express divergent views on the origin of the universe. However, most biologists tend to be persuaded by evolution compared to intelligent design and creationism. Nonetheless, intelligent design and creationism still remain popular in America and this paper seeks to identify the reasons in both cases.Over the last couple of centuries, Evolution has dominated the various scientific theories trying to explain the origin of the universe.
