I am one of the very few of a dying breed. Some may call me an agitator although I prefer to use the term free thinker. I do not yet remember my true name but i feel it will come to me eventually. Before the technological evolution we used to wonder about the world around us, we dreamed and we thought for ourselves. Yes we would disagree, fight amongst ourselves, steal and kill; as did everyone throughout history... We were not perfect but it was our inherent imperfections that made us so perfect. It was around the year 2110 that the world government decided that mankind could not be trusted with it's own free will. It was something that nobody anticipated or ever thought would happen. With technology at it's peak, the world government created an algorithm that through social media, bank records, purchases on Amazon, things you search on your phones and computers etc. were able to detect who would pose a threat to the well being of humanity and the utopian society they wished to create. In an effort to rid the world of violence and imperfection they began to "pick off" these, what they called, agitators. After 10 years of this global cleansing, the world was nearly free of these agitators and all that was left were the ones willing to comply with the rules of this new found utopian world. Leading biochemists created a pill, that when taken inhibits the ability to free think and in effect allows their thought process to be reprogrammed in whichever way the programmer saw fit. This process was known as TPR. Every man woman and child would be sent to special facilities known as the RHQ in order to have this process done and the ones that refused to comply were dealt with. If somehow anyone was able to regain the ability to free think, they were sent back to the RHQ for reprogramming. We were stripped of our names and assigned numbers. We had no true sense of identity. The world was at the brink of the greatest technological breakthrough of all time. In a way this was the fault of the people. Since the 1900's mankind acquired this obsession with technology. Medicine, cars, radios, phones, televisions, video games, computers, cell phones, micro technology. We kept wanting more and more. We wanted them more potent, faster, better audio and visual, smaller, more innovative. We had this desire to dive deeper and deeper into the future instead of enjoying what was already in front of us. Technology was moving at such a rapid rate that is was difficult for us to even keep up. It was only a matter of time before TPR was discovered. The thing that we used to be enchanted by and looked at with such wonder ultimately was the product of our downfall as a species. Although there is no war, no greed and no murder we seem to have lost the thing that makes us human; our ability to think and perceive. In the words of Descartes, all I can know for sure is that I am a thinking thing; but if we have lost this ability to think than what are we? I feel as if my luck will run out soon and I will be found but to whoever reads these letters I hope this breaks you of this trance like state brought about by TPR and you may be free as I was many years ago.
