The creation of men has always been a heavily debated topic within the human race. Modern individuals tend to believe in two origins of mankind: evolution and intelligent design. Often times, certain groups of people with similar backgrounds will prefer the same origin. Biologists, in particular, often believe in evolution by natural selection over intelligent design. This is usually the case because biologist are often non-religious, and will believe in factual evidence. There are very few exceptions to this matter.
A person’s religious background will heavily effect one’s belief in creationism. One with a religion based on creationism will most likely believe in intelligent design because that is what their faith teaches them. Usually, individuals that consider themselves scientist will not believe in certain religions aspects, such as creationism. Scientists, such as biologist, often do not have a religious background because their scientific beliefs would possibly conflict with their religious beliefs. These scientists will mostly believe in theories that can be scientifically explained, as opposed to a theory writer or taught by a religion. This causes biologist to shy away from the belief of intelligent design, because they are taught otherwise through non-religious discoveries.
In addition, scientists will believe in ideas with factual evidence. There are many pieces of evidence that support the theory of evolution, and more particularly, Darwinism. Darwinism is a theory that inherent dynamic forces allow only the fittest persons or organizations to prosper in a competitive environment or situation” (“Darwinism”). Using many different scientist’ research, including both Charles Darwin and Gregor Mendel, modern scientists have been able to piece together evidence leading to modern evolutionary synthesis. Biologist, as a type of scientist, having expert knowledge in the science of biology, are exceptionally informed with hereditary sciences. Hereditary sciences, pioneered by Mendel, have a direct link to modern day evolution. This leads biologists to prefer believing in natural selection.
There are very interesting exceptions to this matter. For instance, American’s are well educated, many still choose to believe in the idea of intelligent design. This is the case because large areas of the United States of America are still considered very religious. The United States of America had been the land where individuals immigrated to seek religious freedom. As stated earlier, individuals considered to be religious will often believe in intelligent design. American’s have both scientific and religious backgrounds, believing in often conflicting ideas. Often times, even Americans working in the medical field will believe in creationism due to their religious background, despite being educated through very scientific teachings.
Creationism and the modern theories of evolution have been argued over for centuries. Individuals often believe in the theories that are more prominent in their life. Where more religious individuals will prefer intelligent design, people with scientific backgrounds will often prefer natural selection. Biologists usually believe in evolution by natural selection over intelligent design, due to the large amount of factual evidence that supports the theory of evolution. American’s, however, often believe in creationism despite having a background in science or biology.

I agree with you when you say that the type of background a person is exposed to and grows up in normally determines and sets one’s belief. Most families today have some religious belief and that belief is more than likely to be passed down to the young and stay with them until they make the choice to continue being devoted or to stop but that all depends on the willingness to accept change and ideas like many scientists do. Overall, an excellent essay, you have a good understanding between evolution and intelligent design.

Lawrencebiteranta, I agree with you when you say that a person’s religious background will heavily affect the people who do agree with creationism. It is true people who believe in their religion would follow it or seem it’s like correct. For example if the bible says that people should not order hamburgers then people who put their faith into their religion would not eat hamburgers because the bible said so. Overall great post!

Lawrencebiteranta, I am in total agreement with your stated comments about how people with religious backgrounds are more prone to believing in a intelligent designer. But is that the case with all religion? I feel like people that believe in God are targeted more than those who believe in many different Gods. Nonetheless, in general I feel like people that aren't open to learning or hearing about evolution and what it actually is or means don't have the full understanding that "it" is just a theory. I believe in God and I have nor doubt he created me and I see this from a spiritual point of view or the church/christian way. But on the other hand I can grasp how scientist think and can come up with how we came about because of dating methods and Charles Darwin who was in fact also a introduced to religion at a young age but chose to go with science.

This is a topic that will continue to have debate until the world comes to an end. Scientists are known for being fact finders and testers. When it comes down to understanding the world, they go to the lab and hypothesize. The results are there so other scientists can duplicate the same experiment and come to a conclusion about their findings. Now this is why science is necessary. It can't allow for bias, or skepticism. If there is error or confusion, it will be addressed when the same experiment is performed by another scientist. Creationists want to believe that the world is too complex to not have been created by an intelligent designer (God). America, which is part of the western world, has a history deeply rooted in Christianity. So they believe the "good book", Bible, and all of its teachings. If it says God made the world in 7 days then who are they to say God didn't. To believe in the theory of Evolution, would say that the bible is wrong. Evolution completely removes God from the picture. Or does it? Creationists would say that it doesn't. They find the flaws in Evolution Theory and are able to say because you can't explain it means that God has to be a factor in the equation. Science has made huge leaps since it broke away from religion. There are those scientists that are trying to link science and Christianity to explain how and why we are existing. No one has the answer, but even if you happen to be a believer in Christianity, science is the way to test our questions.
