Bumps in the night, objects mysteriously moving from one place to another, unexplainable sights—such as crop circles and willo-o’-the-wisp—and visions plaguing a handful of people who claim to be able to predict the future, these are but the few examples of what people would consider being as “paranormal.” My father, for as long as I could remember, has held a great interest in the paranormal and finds topics discussed in shows on the History Channel, such as Ancient Aliens, to be interesting and thought provoking of a world we have yet to discover or even begin to understand. And, in a way, he has a point to his interest and wonder what makes people believe that certain events could be so paranormal that science would not be able to explain it? Was their experience beyond so unnatural that there was no room for science? Or had their experience occurred so quickly that the only logic conclusion was of paranormal involvement?
For years, monuments and locations have caused a stir in society on their origins and how their formation took place. The popular Moai statues, or better known as Easter Island Heads, have left heads scratching on how exactly they were moved until recent recreation tests took place with a group able to move the giant head by using three ropes tied to both sides and one extending from the back of the head. With careful movements and balance, the group was able to move the Moai statue just as they would have been moved from place to place in the past instead of the help of more intelligent beings with advanced technology. However, that is but one of many paranormal mysteries debunked using logic instead of jumping to the conclusion that extra-terrestrials had a major part in it.
Communication with the world beyond has been a reoccurring event throughout my life with some of my teachers from the past explaining their experiences with the supernatural and from my own family as well, specifically a close aunt of mine who claims to feel the presence of a spirit nearby or supernatural energy. Having recently lost her ex-husband, I would find myself hearing her experiences of the days that followed after on how she would feel someone watching her at night or that the bed would dip near her face as well as doors slamming shut whenever she would leave to work. Grief is an emotion we all feel, especially after losing someone intimately close to us. My aunt’s experience was similar to that of Faqir Chand, where instead of a sacred figure appearing before her, it was her deceased ex-husband trying to help her move on during her moment of great sorrow and lift her out of her growing depression. Emotions play a large part in most, if not all, paranormal activities, as when we are open to the idea of having a complete stranger read us our future by reading our palms when the practice of Palmistry is available for all to learn on their own, we tend to forget about logic and put it aside.
