THE TECHNOLOGICAL
Write an essay on how technology will change or alter how human beings live and interact in the future.
At one point in my life when I was a teenager I was faced with a reality that my mothers’ leg would have to be amputated. She had suffered from ulcers on her side of her ankles that would open up and get infected. That set me up on a path to dream up of one day having to deal with my Mothers’ leg being amputated and for me to devise a way to ease the suffering of that loss. Surely someone without a leg can live a normal life but I just couldn’t accept it that my mother would have to live through that. I dreamed of a day where I would go to school and get into robotics. Mainly into what I thought at the time would help like exoskeleton technologies that would help amputees and the disabled to live a normal life with the help of an artificial limb. My understanding was not only help my mother but consider the reality that I can help other people with the technology. What inspired me of the actual technology was the movie Terminator. I saw how the technology could be used to replace or compliment the human form. The terminator was meant to look human, that got me thinking instead of looking robotic people could actually look normal. This struck me to think of the premise to help people to just look and live the normal life.
What happened to my Mother was she didn’t go with the suggested amputation and refused to satisfy the idea of the easy way out. The ulcers came and went, but she managed to a point that she was fine and didn’t need the amputation. But the notion to get into robotics always stuck in my mind somewhat, especially to help the people I know it would help. The years went by and the technology developed to just that. It helped people get into the Olympics and live lives the probably couldn’t live without the help of prosthetics or robotics. This led me to reading about 3D printing. I also had recognized the future potential of this technology not only for manufacturing but in health. What I had thought robotics can do for people, 3D printing is realizing it could do the same. I remember when Kodak as a printer manufacturer went out of business, I was talking to my brother Daniel about the technology could be bought up not for printing paper, but to utilize the technology to print objects and useful actual 3D things. He didn’t understand or get the potential of the technology. I later read how they were discovering the different uses of printing like skin to organs for people. One day it had potential to instantly print what people needed that was diseased or just burned. What struck one day was reading that they can also potentially print limbs and even more practical the bones and cartilage that can get people back to living a normal life when those parts are damaged. Instead of having people with artificial looking robotics, exoskeleton, or prosthetics 3D printing and replacing actual human parts goes with my thinking of helping people to look and live the normal life.
Technologies is always developed to help people. These two technologies will help people live a normal and better life. It will forever change the human race to where if we need the assistance of robotics or the use of 3D printers to actually replace pieces or limbs of the body it is there help us to live the better life and to suffer less. The future is the human race interacting with technology to be utilized in the betterment of our health and the better enjoyment of life.
