Paranormal event
Write a critical analysis of an alleged paranormal event or idea and provide a rational/logical explanation for it.
It was November 7, 2015, around 6pm in southern California. A faint streak shoots up in the night sky. Then it happened. At first what seemed to be a comet traveling across the pacific coast, soon illuminated to be brighter than the stars in the night sky. Its color shifts from the faint starry yellow to an incandescent blue as it seemingly begins to explode into a sphere like explosion leaving a huge trail in its wake. What seems at first to be a light slowly making its way across the night sky quickly turned into something else as it got closer. What could it have been, was it a UFO? People immediately jump to the conclusion that it is a UFO and that aliens were visiting the southern basins of California. Immediately social media was filled with pictures and comments on the sighting of the UFOs and not much of anything else. People had varying reactions of fear to excitement. A video posted on YouTube by Julian Solomita went viral and caused an excitement online. He captured, on video, the initial sighting at its most crazy and climatic point where it seemed to burst and filled the sky with giant clouds of blue and white light. That was the point that had made anyone witnessing the event wondering what it was. The whole spectacle was caught and you could hear Julian and his friends react in awe. Trying to make sense of what they just witnessed; the only thing they can ask was, “what was that?’ Suddenly, the majority of social media was in a frenzy. From YouTube to Twitter, the content poured out and was filled with videos and comments describing it as a “UFO.” The spectacle was quickly associated to be that of alien visitors by the rest of social media. The Chandian effect of how the sighting was believed to be extraterrestrials rather than a logical, reasonable, explanation was now fully being materialized.
In fact, the true cause of the mysterious object spreading across the night sky was the result of a plausible yet skeptical missile test, fired by the navy. A spokesperson from the navy confirms “The Navy Strategic Systems Programs Conducted the schedule Trident missile test flight at sea from the Kentucky, an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, in the Pacific Test Range off the coast of Southern California.” This statement combined with the knowledge that when object reaching ice forming altitudes in earth’s upper atmosphere are still exposed to sunlight; easily explain and account for the strange lights seen that day. Regardless, with the chandian effect in full effect, many of the local Angelinos and other Southern Californians remain skeptical over whether or not to believe the official explanation. In fact, people seem to be more content with their own explanations but are left in fear of the unknown. Days later throughout social media the phenomena is still being viewed as a UFO than the true missile test.
